Dr. Sam Kimmell, DO is fellowship-trained and board-certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and Pain Medicine. A South Bend, Indiana native, Dr. Kimmell graduated summa cum laude from John Adams High School and earned his undergraduate degree from Indiana University, where he was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa, the nation’s most prestigious academic honor society.
He received his medical degree from Marian University College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed his residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Louisville. Prior to medical school, Dr. Kimmell worked at South Bend Orthopaedics and remained active in clinical research with the group during his medical training. His long-standing goal has been to return to South Bend Orthopaedics and give back to the community that shaped him.
He is one of the only providers in our area to offer basivertebral nerve ablation, a minimally-invasive, outpatient procedure that aims to relieve chronic vertebrogenic lower back pain. He also performs bone tumor ablation for patients who have cancer that has metastasized to the spine.
Dr. Kimmell is committed to delivering evidence-based, patient-centered care in the evolving fields of spine care and pain management. He remains engaged in academic societies and continuing medical education, striving to offer the least invasive and most effective treatment options to improve his patients’ pain, function, and overall quality of life.
